The Michigan Workers' Compensation fee schedule provides that a carrier may request a physician to perform a consultation. These services are reimbursable at the maximum payment allowance as defined in the rules for CPT codes. Our physicians will use CPT codes 99244 (billed at $269.22) or 99245 (billed at $329.55) depending on complexity, which makes them a very cost effective alternative to the Independent Medical Examination, a by report billable item. The only issue not addressed is causality, which on an accepted claim is not generally relevant. This Medical Disability Consult will include current medical status, work restrictions and medical care.
